Negative keyword conflicts in more detail

Prevent your live keywords from being blocked by negatives

Negative keyword conflicts occur when a negative keyword in your account prevents an exact match keyword from serving. This can happen at a few levels:

  • Shared library
  • Campaign level
  • Ad group level

This penalty in Squared will identify where exact match keywords are being prevented from showing and at what level the negative keyword is applied. By downloading the report you will be able to decide if the negative keyword or the exact match keyword is correct and make the necessary change.

For example, you might have a competitor keyword in a shared library negative list but recently started testing competitor bidding. This report will highlight where it's happening so you can remove the negative keyword from the shared library.

Any negative keyword conflicts caused by negatives in the 'Squared: Account Negative Keyword List' should be removed from the Squared Negatives list - rather than directly in Google Ads. Navigate to 'Manage' and 'Negatives', search for the offending negative and click the red 'x' to remove it. you can then sync your account to push the changes to Google Ads ('Optimise', 'Automation', 'Sync now').

The score for this penalty is potential impressions lost versus overall impression volume.
